Before you start
Mazatlán stands out among Mexican beach destinations because it is a real, historic Pacific seaport rather than a manufactured resort strip. With over 200 years of cultural heritage, neoclassical French architecture, and a 21-kilometer scenic boardwalk, here is how to spend 3 to 4 days like a pro.
- Hike El Faro before 8:00 AM to beat the coastal heat.
- Dine in Old Town / Plazuela Machado at least 2 evenings for great food and live music.
- Take a boat to Deer Island (Isla Venados) on a weekday for calm, crystal waters.
- Book a certified private driver to bypass parking headaches and taxi haggling.
Day 1: Classic Mazatlán (El Faro Hike, Boardwalk Pulmonía & Sunset)
Start with the most spectacular panoramic Pacific viewpoint.
Hike El Faro Lighthouse & Glass Bridge Walkway
Climb the 336 steps of Crestón hill to reach the second-highest natural lighthouse in the world, featuring a cantilevered glass viewing bridge over the sea.

Wear grippy athletic shoes and bring cold water. Avoid hiking after 10:30 AM during hot months.
Sunset Boardwalk Ride in an Open-Air Pulmonía
Hop into an open-air pulmonía to feel the cool sea breeze while the Pacific sunset turns amber and violet. Stop by the Fisherman's Monument and the Cliff Divers point.

Day 2: Neoclassical Old Town & Machado Bohemian Evening
Discover the heritage, art galleries, and dining of Centro Histórico.
Walk Around Plazuela Machado & Angela Peralta Theater
Stroll pedestrian lanes lined with 19th-century Italian and French neoclassical architecture. Enjoy open-air dinner surrounded by live acoustic melodies.

Book patio tables early for Friday and Saturday evenings around Machado.
Day 3: Crystal Waters & Snorkeling at Deer Island (Isla Venados)
A day of sunshine, paddle boarding, and untouched nature.
Catamaran Crossing to Deer Island Nature Reserve
The largest of the three islands sheltering the bay. Its calm, turquoise waters make it the premier local spot for swimming, kayaking, and relaxing in nature.

Deer Island is an uninhabited reserve with no restaurants. Make sure your tour provides shaded umbrellas, ice, and drinks.
